Course Overview:

This 4-week beginner sewing course is designed for absolute beginners or those looking to refresh their basic skills. Each week builds on the last, offering hands-on practice, foundational knowledge, and completed projects you can take home. By the end of the course, you'll know how to use your sewing machine, read patterns, and create simple, beautiful items on your own!

Course Schedule & Breakdown

Week 1: Meet Your Machine & Master the Basics

  • Introduction to sewing tools and materials

  • How to thread and operate a sewing machine

  • Basic stitches (straight stitch, zigzag, backstitch)

  • Practice stitching on fabric scraps

  • Project: Make a fabric coaster

Week 2: Fabric Fundamentals & First Project

  • Understanding fabric types, grain, and cutting techniques

  • Using a rotary cutter and pins correctly

  • How to press seams properly

  • Reading simple patterns and instructions

  • Project: Sew a custom tote bag

Week 3: Pattern Reading

  • How to follow commercial patterns

  • Pinning, cutting, and assembling a garment piece

  • Project: Sew a simple elastic-waist skirt or pajama pants

Week 4: Finishing Touches & Sewing Skills for Life

  • Adding closures (buttons, snaps, Velcro)

  • Hemming techniques and topstitching

  • Tips for independent sewing success

  • Project: Complete skirt/pants and class showcase
